A gathering of Land Rover owners will assemble from across the UK and Europe to welcome The Last Overland team at Folkestone, UK. After, the team will be joined by a specially commissioned Oxford & Cambridge liveried New Defender on its final journey to the finish line at The Hilton Park Lane in London - yards from the finish line of the First Overland Expedition in 1956.

There, the team were met by the latest Land Rover, the New Defender, which came face-to-face with its early ancestor “Oxford” a Series I Land Rover. To welcome the team at Nitra were Slovakian Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini, alongside Jaguar Land Rover’s Executive Director for Manufacturing, Grant McPherson.
The team were given the opportunity to tour the state-of-the-art facilities at Nitra, where they saw New Defenders rolling off the production line. Alex Bescoby, expedition lead commented, “We had always hoped to visit Nitra as part of our voyage and to explore the manufacturing heart of the New Defender. We received a fantastic welcome from the Jaguar Land Rover team at Nitra – marking a special start to our homeward leg to London”.

– Ha eltekintünk az elromlott benzinszivattyútól, üzemanyagszűrőtől, karburátortól, az akksi- és dinamócserétől, az elszállt féktől, a Türkmenisztánban, menet közben kiesett hátsó keréktől, a betegeskedő kürttől és világítástól, akkor tényleg nem volt semmi baj a kocsival.
87 évesen szerette volna nyakába venni a világot, hogy folytassa a 20 évesen elkezdett túráját, ugyanazzal az autóval! 63 évvel ezelőtt a fiatalok kitalálták, hogy Londonból Szingapúrig autóznák, át fél a világon. Sikerült nekik és most megtalálták az egyik terepjárót ott a városállam dzsungelében. Az akkor fiatal kalandor most sajnos lebetegedett a túra előtt, ezért az unokája vállalta be helyette a 16 ezer kilométeres utat nagypapája rozoga járgányával.

През 1955 година, два автомобила Land Rover Series I поемат на епично пътуване от Лондон до Сингапур, наречено The First Overland. Екипът от 6 души поставя рекорд, с преодоляването на маршрута за 6 месеца.
Уникалното на това пътешествие, наред с всичко друго е и фактът, че това е най-дългото възможно разстояние на планетата, което може да се измине по суша. Още по-уникалното е, че участниците в The First Overland, след кратък престой в Сингапур, повтарят маршрута обратно към Лондон.

Срещаме се с екипа на експедицията в новия комплекс на Moto-Pfohe на “Околовръстен път” №483. В средата на шоурума има нещо голямо и ръбато, под червено покривало. Отяво стои чисто нов RR Sport SVR с 575 коня за 300 хил. лв., а отдясно – най-новото LR Discovery. Покривалото пада и под него изгрява „Най-добрата кола на света”, от която капе масло. Така я определя супер лъчезарният и с класическо британско чувство за хумор Алекс Бискоби, основна фигура в групата от 10-има приключенци, решили да прекарат около 4 месеца на път с 64-годишен Land Rover.

Londra – Sigapur arasında yol macerasına çıkan gezginler Zirve Off-Road kulübünün konuğu oldu. Sometimes it just happens. Your dog, on whom you’ve lavished so much love and affection, just had a bad day and snaps at you. The QE I, my ’66 Series IIA 88” SW, has exhibited that very behavior.
Last fall, clearly annoyed by the presence of its stablemate, my ’97 Discovery I SE7, it decided to render its transmission inoperable. With the help of friends, I installed a rebuilt transmission from Rovers North [see Fall 2018 issue -ed.] Then it sleeted, snowed and rained for several months all over my shade tree “garage.”
